Things That Feel More Good and Less Shit
An author I follow the work of, Nic Antoinette, writes these newsletters that she titles, “Whats Working”. She lists things that she is doing (or not doing) that work for her for in that period of time. I know that my last few essays have been on the heavier side, so I wanted to share something similar to Nic’s “Whats Working” posts. Not only for my readers, but for myself as a reminder that not everything is dog shit right now.
So, what is feeling more good and less shit right now?
Reading fiction books (you can see what i’m reading here).
Not recommending the movie, Humane, to people. Trust me - If you are hoping this movie will address class dynamics in a meaningful or validating way, let me squash that hope and just help you avoid that journey. You’re better off watching The Menu or Joker.
This Substack post about how to-do lists will always exist no matter how productive you are by Nic.
Going to concerts.
Going off my birth control after doing far too much reading about birth control…
Not overanalyzing my anxiety. I validate that I am newly off antidepressants, off my birth control and healing from an infection - shit is gonna feel weird. I notice it, then distract myself.
Listening to music from the 60s.
This spoken word video, called: Dear Straight People
Physical touch from people I love.
Trying to be present for moments of happiness rather than expecting myself to be happy.
Eating when i’m hungry.
Drinking more water.
Allowing myself to take naps.
Going on walks when I feel anxious.
Doing garden work to help with anxiety.
Verbalizing my attachment flareups to my partners.
Watching anime and reading manga.
Knowing that Pride Month is coming.
Having conversations with my socialist boyfriend about me feeling black pilled and reminding myself I am not.
My partner inching closer to MS treatment.
Whats feeling good and less shit in your world right now?
