To My Beloved Queers
Yesterday, I saw the news of the gay club shooting in Colorado which took the life of five queer folks. I lay in bed, doom scrolling on Reddit feeling overwhelmed, angry and sad. With the increase in violence towards LGTBQIA people, I once again, as I often am these days, faced with thoughts of hopelessness and defeat. I have needed to take my macro lens down to a micro one over the last several years as my hope for society as a whole, has been greatly diminished. Where my hope lies, is with individuals and my circle of friends and loved ones.
So, as an individual, I found myself sending messages to all of my queer friends this morning. Letting them know they are loved and appreciated and that as a fellow queer, I share the sadness we are all feeling. I let them know that I was glad they are safe and alive and that they are cared about.
I now am doing the same for those of you who follow me who are part of the LGTBQIA community.
Know that you are not alone. You are cared about. Your fellow queer community feels the sadness you may be experiencing. We are in this together - it is a hell hole of a nightmare - but we have each other. You are seen. Your existence matters and I am glad you are alive and safe.
If you are not queer identified, but have queer friends - please connect with them.
